Slayer was formed in 1981 and is considered one of the "Big Four" thrash metal acts (along with Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth). Slayer's style combines fast tremolo picking, atonal guitar solos, double bass drumming and hardcore tempos. Hanneman and King's dual guitar solos have been coined as "wildly chaotic" and "twisted genius".

With aggressive metal music, shouting vocals and controversial album art of serial killers and satanic overtones, Slayer has had it's fair share of lawsuits, album bans, and criticism by religious groups. On the flip side, Slayer has had 5 Grammy noms, 2 Grammy wins and 4 gold records.
