Swedish 80's rock band Europe was formed in 1979 in Upplands Väsby. Although the band's name started out as "Force", it was changed a few years later to what we now know as "Europe". Although urged to cut their hair and sing in Swedish to get a record deal, Europe stuck it out and received a record contract in 1982 for winning the Swedish rock talent contest Rock-SM. Three years and 2 albums later, CBS records offered them an international record deal.
In May of 1986, Europe released "The Final Countdown". The album was certified Triple Platinum in the USA and went to #8 on the Billboard 200 chart. The single "The Final Countdown" became a worldwide success, peaking at number 1 in 25 countries. Europe is also known for the power ballad "Carrie" which reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1998 the band reunited and released "Start from the Dark" in 2004 followed by Secret Society" in 2006. Todays Europe lineup consists of Joey Tempest - lead vocals, John Norum - lead & rhythm guitars, John Levén - bass, Mic Michaeli - keyboards and Ian Haugland - drums.
