Duran Duran was named after the evil doctor, Dr. Durand Durand, in the French sci-fi film, Barbarella. Duran Duran’s line-up includes: Simon LeBon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor. The bands first hit album, self titled, churned out “Planet Earth” “Careless Memories” and of course “Girls on Film” who music video created an uproar and was banned by the BBC and edited for MTV.
In 1982, Rio was released and although it did not climb the charts at first, Rio became one of Duran Duran’s finest moments. Rio remained on the charts for 129 weeks and became one of the top 200 albums of all time. Rolling Stone stated, “They may be the first rock group to ride in on a video wave.” The album produced hits like “Rio” “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Save A Prayer” and some of the best music videos of all time.
When “Seven And The Ragged Tiger” was released with the 1983 hit “Union Of The Snake”, Duran Duran had held fast with five US top twenty hits from three different albums in one year. Other hits off the album included “New Moon on Monday” and of course “The Reflex” which became the bands first number 1 hit in the U.S.
Duran Duran continues to tour and turn out hits. They have spanned over three decades. I guess its not hard to see that Duran Duran is one of “The 80’s Child’s” personal favorites. Having seen them in concert numerous times, this band DOES NOT disappoint. When you get a chance, check out Duran Duran.
